Paul Butler is always looking forward, respectfully looking back. Hailing from the Isle of Wight, NME calls the Grammy nominated producer, mixer and multi-instrumentalist “a maker of some damn fine albums.” Butler recorded Sunshine Hit Me — the 2002 debut of his psych-rock band The Bees — in a garden shed, earning widespread acclaim and a Mercury Prize nomination. The Bees’ Virgin Records follow-up Free the Bees launched the band onto a global stage, catching the attention of Devendra Banhart who later brought Butler out to California to produce What Will Be Will Be.

Butler’s sunny, open, and downright joyous production style is apparent on Andrew Bird’s sweeping folk-rock anthems of the Grammy nominated My Finest Work Yet, and in the whimsical synths of Caroline Rose’s genre-bending Loner. On Michael Kiwanuka’s debut Home Again, Butler delicately captures 1970s soul — a Sound on Sound profile declared that Butler had “perfected a colorful, idiosyncratic, retro-modernist sound.”

Now rooted in Los Angeles, 2023 finds Butler again collaborating with Australia’s The Teskey Brothers on their forthcoming The Winding Way, and launching a new collaborative project Infinite Crescendo with journey designer Carly Jo Carson.
