Purveyor of the new wave hip hop sound and fashion, the Parisian-born rapper of mixed ethnicity brings an exciting European flavour to the Melbourne scene.
A sharp wit and tongue in cheek attitude infuse Jaye’s music, effortlessly creating tracks with wide appeal.
A native French-speaker having grown up in the north-western suburbs of Paris, Jaye relocated to Melbourne’s Collingwood in his teens, and quickly made his mark on local hip hop collective, 66 Records.
From making beats and writing lyrics in the basement studio of his housing commission flat in Collingwood, Lil Jaye’s debut single “Choppa Make Her Dance” instantly resonated. A totally independent release, it reached the top 20 of the Australian Viral 50 on Spotify, and has hit around 200,000 spins. The word of mouth around Jaye – particularly in his adopted home of Melbourne – has extended itself to the live arena too, with his live appearances leading to punters spilling onto the streets of Melbourne’s inner suburbs.
Lil Jaye continues to level up the scene with his touch – he’s now opened up for Juice WLRD, Lil Mosey and Xavier Wulf and audiences reacted to his angelic sound instantly.
