23-year-old Gold Coast singer/songwriter – Chloe Styler – is not your typical artist. Drawing influences from Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and Kacey Musgraves, Chloe has allowed herself the freedom to explore a more personal approach to her music while creating a timeless sound rather than following the latest music trends.
At just five years of age, she accompanied her parents to her first live concert. As a result, Chloe fell completely in love with music, birthing a musically crazed youngster who became obsessed with all styles. At six she started taking piano lessons followed by singing lessons at 7, saxophone at 10 and progressing to teaching herself guitar at 13.
Chloe recorded and released her self-funded debut EP – “Chloe Styler” - in January 2017. Having written or co-written all of the six tracks, the songs give a personal insight into Chloe’s life and thoughts and reflect an artist of class and maturity well beyond her years.
Chloe is gathering as much live experience as she can to continue honing her craft and developing her artistry. She’s been lucky to support a vast array of major chart artists and all agree this young lady is simply the real deal!
Her single, “When Your Light Burns” was co-written with the acclaimed Fanny Lumsden and produced by ARIA winner, Matt Fell (Tim Freedman/Morgan Evans). The song was awarded the 2019 TSA Award for Alternative Country Song of The Year and received national airplay including a lucrative playlist addition to ABC Local Radio. In February 2019, the song was shortlisted as a Top 5 Finalist in the Country category of the Queensland Music Awards. Chloe says the song is an ode to her childhood. “The inspiration came from a Lighthouse that has stood tall in the Great Barrier Reef for over 150 years. I have experienced many family holidays on this island and have been fortunate to learn its history and create my own along the way”, she says.
“This lighthouse has been a constant throughout my life, and reminds me that although I can feel alone, lost and completely unsure of what to do next, it will always be there to guide me home.”
In April 2019, Chloe was named as a finalist for Breakout Artist of the Year at the Gold Coast Music Awards. She was a 2019 performer at Groundwater Music Festival, Gympie Muster and Deni Ute Muster and playing support spots to Lee Kernaghan, D Henry Fenton and James Blundell.
Her single, “Patient Heart”, was released in October 2019 through ABC/Universal. Chloe explains that a Patient Heart is one that waits for it’s other half to find its way home. The song plays on the idea that the heart is reaching the end of its tether and is holding out for an answer, but is cut short before we find out.
“If the world was to end right now, whom would we turn to for comfort and solace? The lyrics ‘If the dams all broke and there was no hope, would you heart reach for mine?” encapsulate this feeling while asking the person to, basically, hurry up and make a decision. The song is a plea for the person you love to let you know how they’re feeling before it’s too late, because none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.”
In January 2020, Chloe was a Top 10 Grand Finalist in the prestigious Toyota Star Maker event - which launched the careers of international acts Keith Urban and Kylie Sackley. She was also awarded the 2020 TSA Award for Alternative Country Song of The Year for “Patient Heart” and released the single “Sweden” which has already hit the Top 10 in Australia.
Solely written by Chloe, “Sweden”, is a love at first sight story about two people unexpectedly meeting on New Years Eve, however their time was cut short and they never even had the chance to exchange names.
“It’s based off a personal experience I had a few years ago when I met a Swedish boy at a New Years Eve Party but never learnt his name. It’s a fun twist on a love song, as I never really had the opportunity to ‘fall’ for this boy but at the same time I definitely thought he was pretty”, laughed Chloe.
“Writing songs from my own perspective can be really fun at times, especially when the subject involves a beautiful Swedish boy!”
At the end of Feb 2020, Chloe toured nationally with 80’s UK pop icon, Tony Hadley (ex-Spandau Ballet) on his Australian tour and will kick off a Queensland tour with Haley Marsten in May followed by the release of her debut album later in the year.
As of July 2020, Chloe was recording her debut album under the helm of Andy Mak (Vera Blue/The McClymonts).
Chloe’s unique and captivating voice has already attracted a variety of loyal followers of all musical tastes and has been compared to artists including Lisa Mitchell, Jewel and Julia Stone.
