Tony Visconti has been described as one of the most important producers in the history of rock. Here are just a few of the classic musical moments Visconti helped to create: “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” and “Cosmic Dancer” by T. Rex, David Bowie’s “Young Americans,” “Heroes,” and “The Man Who Sold The World,” The Moody Blues’ “Your Wildest Dreams” and “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere,” along with many more.
This year sees Tony remixing music for the new David Bowie film Moonage Daydream, producing the new Paul Simonon (Clash) feat. Galen Ayres album, mixing new music by Kris Singh, mixing the David Bowie 50th Anniversary Space Oddity album in Dolby Atmos, arranging and conducting strings for Kelly Reilly‘s “Happiness Lasts,” and producing the new Daphne Guinness album.
2021 saw Tony mix David Bowie‘s Reality Tour live, Blackstar, The Next Day, Heathen, and Reality all in the immersive audio format Sony 360, curated Demon Music‘s T. Rex 1972 boxset, and arranging several songs–“Suffragette City” and “Dollar Days”–on jazz great Donny McCaslin‘s forthcoming 2023 album release.
2020 Tony produced and mixed Brando‘s “Hello,” additional production and new mix on Boy George and Culture Club‘s “Girl Gone Band,” and Boy George‘s “Song I Wrote For You” singles, mixed SpizzEnergi‘s “Christmas In Denmark Street,” and new mixes for a reissue of David Bowie‘s The Man Who Sold The World, including “The Supermen,” “The Width of a Circle,” “She Shook Me Cold,” “Saviour Machine,” “Running Gun Blues,” “All The Madmen,” “The Man Who Sold The World,” and “Black Country Rock“.
2019 served up a new The Good, The Bad and The Queen album, entitled Merrie Land, that Tony co-produced with Damon Albarn, produced Perry Farrell‘s Kind Heaven, mixed David Bowie‘s Space Oddity in Sony 360 immersive audio, produced and mixed Band Maid‘s single “The Dragon Cries,” and did a MasterClass / Q&A at BIMM in Manchester.
2018 delivered Tony speaking at the David Bowie Is exhibition at The Brooklyn Museum, on tour, performing with his band, Holy Holy, throughout Europe, producing and mixing Ralph McTell‘s Hill of Beans, and appeared as the judge at Reeperbahn’s Anchor jury in Hamburg, Germany.
In 2017, Tony enjoyed this second television show entitled Unsigned Heroes on SkyArts, guest speaking duties at Reeperbahn and Dansk Live! and remixing David Bowie‘s Lodger, for the Bowie boxed set entitled New Career In A New Town. February 2017 saw Tony achieving great milestones and accolades for his work. On February 12th, at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, Tony received two Grammys for his work as a co-producer and co-mixer on David Bowie‘s Blackstar: Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Alternative Music Album. On February 16th, Tony received three MPG Awards in London for Outstanding Contribution to UK Music, International Producer of the Year, UK Album of the Year for Blackstar.
