Phil Joly is best known for his work with Common, Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey, The Strokes, Residente, and Mark Ronson. As a recording and mix engineer at Electric Lady Studios for 9 years, he has been fortunate to work with the best of best. In 2018, Phil won both a Grammy and a Latin Grammy for Residente’s self-titled album in the Best Urban Album category and in the Best Latin Rock, Alternative or Urban Album respectively.
Most recently, Phil engineered Mark Ronson ft. Camila Cabello’s “Find U Again”, and Mark Ronson ft. Yebba tracks “Knock Knock”, and “When You Went Away”; mixed all music for Common Let Love Have The Last Word audiobook (Simon & Schuster); engineered Common’s Let Love LP including the J-Dilla produced single “HER Love”; engineered Residente’s recent releases “Hoy”, “Bellacoso” (ft. Bad Bunny), “René”, “Pecador”, and “Sexo” (ft. Dillon Francis); mixed Gabriel Garzón-Montano’s “Golden Wings” (Chamber Arrangement); mixed Tank and the Bangas’ “I’ll Be Seeing You” from the Can You Ever Forgive Me soundtrack; mixed Adam Green’s “Dreidels Of Fire”; produced, mixed and engineered “Shy” single release for Melt and their previous single “Stupid in Love”; mixed Pearla’s Quilting & Other Activities EP; mixed Caicos Dream Machine EP; mixed and engineered The Astronots Cotati LP; mixed singles for Coyle Girelli and Rue Snider; mixer and additional production on all Jacksonport releases; recorded Common’s vocals on Jordan Rakei ft. Prior, Phil recorded guitars for Nile Rodgers for Daft Punk’s Grammy-winning Album of the Year, Random Access Memories, including “Get Lucky”, “Lose Yourself to Dance” and “Give Life Back to Music”.
Additionally, Phil recorded and mixed Lana Del Rey’s “Guns and Roses” featured on Ultraviolence. He also recorded and mixed Ryan Adams, Dan Auerbach, The War on Drugs, Courtney Barnett, Brandi Carlile, Violent Femmes, Hozier, Lord Huron, Martin Sexton, Aimee Mann, Bear’s Den, Josh Ritter, Steve Earle, and The Tallest Man on Earth for WFUV.
