Biography

Joe Chiccarelli is an eleven-time Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning producer/mixer/engineer. He has been a part of albums by The Strokes, Morrissey, Young The Giant,The Killers, Spoon, The Shins, Jason Mraz, My Morning Jacket, Boy & Bear, The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Counting Crows, Augie March, Manchester Orchestra, Broken Social Scene, Minus the Bear, Kurt Elling, Need To Breathe, and Alanis Morissette. Other artists include Elton John, Rufus Wainwright, U2, Beck, Etta James, Vance Joy, Jamie Cullum, Al Stewart, Tori Amos, Cage The Elephant, Plain White T's, Weezer, Cafe Tacuba, Pink Martini, Michael Buble', Christina Perri, Juanes, Julieta Venegas, and Mika.

He got his start engineering Frank Zappa's albums Sheik Yerbouti, Joe's Garage Acts I, II & III and Tinseltown Rebellion, and engineered the White Stripes 2007 album Icky Thump. He also engineered The Raconteurs, Consolers of the Lonely, for which he received his eighth of Eleven Grammy awards, for Best Engineered Album of 2008.[2] He has been nominated For Best Engineered on three other occasions (Jason Mraz ,Lorrie Morgan and Cafe Tacuba). He was Nominated for Producer of the Year in 2009 for The Shins. He is responsible for album sales well over 60 million and 6 Billion Streams. He won a Juno Award in 2020 for Best Alternative Album for Half Moon Run.

Other projects through his twenty plus-year career have included music supervision of films such as Suicide Kings and Men with Guns, the TV series Cracker and Robert Altman’s The Gun. Joe is the studio designer for the state-of-the-art Royaltone Recording Studios (now Sphere) in Burbank, CA, and has served as an A&R consultant for several major and independent labels. As an audio design engineer he has designed several plug-ins as well as the Tonelux JC37 microphone.
