Biography

REINTRODUCING Jess & Matt. Now independent recording artists, the Sydney singer/songwriters have released their first original album, Wildflowers – an ultra-personal document to musical freedom and intense self-discovery. The record debuted at #11 on the ARIA charts, #1 album on iTunes & held #1 independent album for 2 weeks.

“There’s a new energy, rediscovering a real love for what we do, bringing it back to the acoustic guitar and writing songs the way we used to. This album feels like coming home.”

The husband-and-wife pair were set to head to Nashville (as they did every year) in March 2020 but like all musicians, COVID changed their plans. They had a back-up plan: a cabin in the Southern Highlands of NSW, just up the road from where Matt Corby made Telluric. Hooking up power and hot water, they started creating a record inspired by Bon Iver’s own DIY cabin magic and Kacey Musgrave’s genre-bending, with songs about everything from dementia to dark times in their marriage. “It was a surreal time in the world, which added to the album process. We were so excited to lock ourselves away & co-produce the record with Patrick Byrne.”

“Aftermath” was released as a single earlier this year, instantly changing opinions of their music with its unexpected honesty and musical intimacy. It’s one of many songs on Wildflowers that unpacks their own relationship.

Wildflowers has an impressive list of co-writers and co-producers including Patrick Byrne, Louis Schoorl (Charlotte Lawrence), David Hodges (Dan + Shay), Steve Solomon (James Arthur), PJ Harding (Noah Cyrus) to name a few.
