A Native of Grozny, National Artist of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeriya Birlyant Ramzaeva. The genre range of the singer is wide, including heroic ballads and dramatic vocal novelettes, and thanks to her creative ability, Birlyant performs them by applying the colors of her voice of great compass and her own expressive manner. One cannot be indifferent to the wrathful and sad, cheerful and lyric songs performed by her. Any song performed by Birlyant is a complete and exquisite vocal piece that before these spectators turns into a short narrative or a tale containing stagecraft and mise en scene.
She puts so much energy and her own spirits into a song that even when she sings in Russian, the song sometimes is given an unusual and at the same time very strong sounding having an emotional influence on the listeners. As a result, the hall is filled up by music and a stately woman is singing: “Like a wolf, you stand against the war, Proud Chechen”.
In 2000, Birlyant’s husband- a poet, the author of the lines for the majority of her songs, Makkal Sabdullaev, was subjected to repression in Grozny. The entire life of Adam Birlyant is closely connected with folk musical art, and her mastery had brought fame to her at home and abroad. In 2001-2002, Birlyant made a concert tour in Europe. In London, she appeared in a theatrical performance arranged jointly with Vanessa Redgrave. Together with the film and theater actor from former Yugoslavia Rade Sherbedji she played in a musical play “Medea” staged by Lenka Udovichka. Since 2002 she recorded five albums. In 2007, the Canadian filmmaker Helen Doyle released a documentary movie about Birlyant Ramzaeva entitled Birlyant, a Chechen story, that was presented in various international festivals. Also, in 2012, Canadian filmmaker Benoit Desjardins released a film "Welcome Yankee", where Birlyant's songs were played.
