Joe Turone turns obscure writing prompts into vulnerable indie-pop ballads. The results are often brimming with the honesty of a folk song and the innocence of a Disney soundtrack. "Human" is a perfect example of this, a dubious self-assessment narrated from the perspective of a zombie wanting to be human once again.
Crafting music in such a manner became a staple in Joe’s songwriting, and in 2018 birthed his self-produced debut album Getting By - which marked his initial outing as a solo artist whilst showcasing his unique brand of alternative/indie pop music. To date, the project has accumulated over 100,000 streams.
Before this, the Essex-based songwriter and producer amassed hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube performing spoken-word poetry as a part of Sid & Joe, who eventually went on to become a main support act on Bob Geldof's UK tour in 2015.
The latest additions Joe's growing music catalogue come bundled together in the form of his second full-length project, which builds upon the foundation set by Getting By and embellishes it with the influence of Bleachers and Wilco. This has created a body of work textured with acoustic guitars, synthesizers and drum machines, which serves as the perfect canvas for Joe’s homely melodies and self-contemplating lyricism.
