Biography

Originally a duo comprising guitarist/vocalist Robert Courtney and bassist Andrew Dickinson from punk band Skin Patrol, One Million Fuzztone Guitars formed in August 1981 as a Stylophone / Drum Machine based group. Released the single 'Heaven'/'Annuese' in January 1982 on Manchester based Monsters In Orbit Records and an avant-garde LP 'The Rise and Fall of the Sound of Music' for Radio Nottingham. A more conventional lineup records the second single 'Men’s Hearts'/'Creepy Crawl' in October 1982 produced by Dave Robbins of the “Colours Out of Time”. Robbins joins the group in January 1983 and the band record the LP '26' followed by a 'live' session at Radio Trent. All these recordings have been remastered from the original tapes and released by Cherry Red Records in 2021 as 'Twenty-Six' (Expanded Edition), 'The Rise and Fall of the Sound of Music' and on the first Monsters In Orbit compilation 'Small Monsters'.

In 2020/2021 Robert Courtney recorded and released nine singles (including one remaster and one extended mix)of unreleased Skin Patrol songs and reworkings of the first single as One Million Fuzztone Guitars / Skin Patrol on One Million Fuzztone Guitars & Skin Patrol Records. More to follow.
