London Records is a British Record label know best for it’s succession of huge pop artists in the 80s/90s such as Bananarama, Bronski Beat, Fine Young Cannibals then through to the 00s with dance acts such as Orbital, Armand Van Helden and Goldie on it’s subsidiary label FFRR. The label was originally set up in 1947 and in the early days was noted for classical recordings and then for licensing deals from the USA for artists such as Roy Orbison and from labels such as Chess, Atlantic and Imperial. Further to releasing early Rolling Stones material and ZZ Top the label was bought in 1971 by Polygram and run by Roger Ames, Tracey Bennet and Colin Bell. Roger Ames took the label to Warner Music Group which had run the vast back catalogue as London Records 90 until recently. In July 2017, Because Music acquired London Records artists from the PolyGram era. With a new team in place London Records is now trading again as an independent label. Recent releases include 'Singles Party (1988-2019)' which includes new music from Shakespears Sister plus reissues from Blancmange, Bananarama, Bronski Beat, The Redskins and Goldie. The catalogue under the new era London Records also includes Happy Mondays, Fine Young Cannibals, Orbital and East 17. Plans are in place to sign new artists to London Records in 2020.
