Kevin Tuffy is an award-winning mastering engineer based @ Manmade Mastering in Berlin, Germany. He began his career in studios as a studio assistant @ Soho Studios, London in 2005, ultimately focussing on mastering via his work as an analogue tape specialist in the late 00s.
Before moving to Berlin, he worked out of some of London‘s most prestigious mastering houses including Alchemy Mastering/AIR Studios, Metropolis & The Pierce Rooms. In 2020, he was awarded a Grammy for his work with Koffee. In the same year he scored number one albums both in the UK (with Nines’ Crabs in a Bucket) and Ireland (with The Coronas’ True Love Waits). In 2022, he was recognised by the Music Producer‘s Guild as the UK Mastering Engineer of the Year. Kevin has appeared as a guest lecturer on mastering at BIMM university in London and the Off The Record music conference in Manchester.
As a mastering engineer, his ethos is informed by the need to retain the character and charm of analogue (with a particular focus on vinyl and tape formats) whilst utilising the pinpoint precision of digital technology, in order to deliver records that sound vibrant, immersive and dynamic. Kevin is one of only a handful of engineers who have cut lacquers for vinyl masters at half-speed. His discography includes records from a wide array of artists including Jason Derulo, Kelly Rowland, Chaka Khan, Headie One, HONNE, Pa Salieu, Alfie Templeman, Jake Bugg, Orla Gartland, The Vaccines & many more...
